Function, experimentation, and budget were at the forefront of the project goals for the owners of the Sloop Residence. The intention to retain a small footprint further drove the creative efforts to maximize the efficiency of the space best suited for their family of four.

Residing in the Montford neighborhood of Asheville, the Sloop Residence sits amongst an urban forest, with glimpses of the French Broad River. The contemporary aesthetic of the home features weathering steel and charred wood siding. The moody industrial exterior contrasts beautifully with the bright and airy interior living spaces. The home’s flat roofs allow for additional outdoor living space, green roofs for wildlife habitat, and space for future solar panels. Achieving the build with minimal grading on the steep slope employed the use of concrete piers along with a concrete and steel parking bridge. Green Light’s utilization of unconventional building materials and problem solving during construction, made the original vision a reality.
