Jon Sloop / Founder
Jon is a North Carolina native and the founder of Green Light Home Builders LLC: a custom home building company located in the mountains of WNC that is built upon the foundations of environmental conservation, constructed beauty, professional integrity and mutual respect.
After a few years as an 8th grade math teacher, Jon decided to pursue a career in the trades. He took a job as a helper on a framing crew, and fell in love with it.
Over the next four years, he developed a partnership with his employer, organized Green Light Home Builders, LLC, and positioned the company to become a successful custom home builder.
On his days off from those endeavors, Jon could be found growing food at home, collecting eggs from a garden flock of chickens, capturing rainwater, and maintaining a three-bin compost system -- things he had been doing for years, first at his grandparents' NC home and later with his own family. Even today, they all still gather in the fall to grind bushels of apples into homemade juice.
Now, those traditional ways of sensible living translate into the work that Green Light does. Making conservation a priority, reducing and responsibly managing waste, treating people with fairness and respect, and creating beautiful things are now company priorities.
Not only is Jon passionate about building, but he is devoted to his family, enjoys bike riding and loves reading articles about Tarheel Basketball even during the off-season. When he's not building houses for other people, he's likely to be building something at home, like a tree house or a play structure for his two kids.
TYLER ERRICKSON
Tyler is the Project Manager for Green Light Home Builders. From creating cost estimates for new clients, sourcing material selections with local vendors, to being on site with a tool belt, Tyler is always helping Green Light’s projects move forward while making sure all stakeholders are involved. Tyler appreciates developing relationships with Green Light clients and collaborating on design aspects to bring the homeowner's vision to life.

Educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, Tyler possesses a strong background in art & design which he applies to the home-building process. Tyler has worked in various environments from professional fine art studios, to massive furniture factories in the tropics of Indonesia. In each instance of his work life, he has always been fascinated by processes and the inherent problem-solving that’s involved.
After having lived, worked, and traveled abroad, Tyler and his wife love living close to nature, raising their two daughters in WNC. They enjoy spending time camping, paddling and biking at the pristine mountain lakes in the area.
Robert Allison
Robert is the Office Manager for Green Light Home Builders. With over 20 years of business management experience, Robert is responsible for the company’s financial matters, administrative duties, and the development of Green Light’s company culture.

After having been involved in marketing management positions in the natural health care industry for many years, Robert was looking to be part of something that had a more tangible, hands-on feel. As a former neighbor of the Sloop’s, he had already come to appreciate Jon's commitment to craftsmanship, excellence and ethical, sustainable business practices, and happily joined the Green Light team.
As a primary collaborator in the development and implementation of marketing and human resource practices, Robert makes sure to focus on Green Light’s spirit of camaraderie. He admires and works to uphold the team’s synergy and their rare ability to connect so authentically with their clients. He also works behind-the-scenes, handling accounts payable and receivable, client billing, payroll, and banking.
When not contributing to the awesomeness that is Green Light Home Builders, Robert enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
The Green Light Crew
Our small team of carpenters are highly competent individuals with various backgrounds from furniture making to steel construction.
We take pride in doing all of our footing and slab prep work, framing, siding and finish work. Additionally, we have the ability to make in-house, slab-style cabinetry and custom built-ins.
